Who Are We?
3rd Platoon, 1st Company, 1st Battalion, 29th Regiment, 2nd Division, Imperial Japanese Army
The 2nd Sendai is composed of members from California, Arizona, and across the West Coast, who are among the first living historians west of the Mississippi dedicated to portraying the Japanese soldier of World War II. We strive to have the most accurate impressions, so we can portray and interpret how the Japanese infantryman lived and fought throughout the Pacific War. We are a new group, and are always on the lookout for new members who are dedicated to preserving and educating others about the history of the Second World War.
--The 2nd Sendai Division--
The 2nd Division (Sendai) was one of the Imperial Japanese Army's most elite divisions. Formed on May 14, 1888, all members were raised from the Miyagi Prefecture in Northern Honshu. The 2nd Division at Guadalcanal consisted of the 4th Inf Regiment, 16th Inf Regiment, 29th Inf Regiment, 2nd Field Artillery Regiment, and the 2nd Engineer Regiment. The 29th was considered the most elite regiment of the division. After early success in Java, the division was decimated in the battle for Guadalcanal. After reforming in the Philippines in 1943, the division was sent to Rangoon in 1944. Finally they finished the war around Phnom Phen in Indochina in 1945. The 2nd Division fought the U.S. Marines and Army as well as the Dutch, British Commonwealth, and Russian forces defending much of the once vast Japanese Empire.
